LETS GET OLD SCHOOL

That's right people, let's get old school. So, far we have been reviewing only the video games at Gaming Grounds but how about talking about the what started all this crazed mania about video games like the Nintendo 64 or as many gameholics (yes they do exist and I am sure there is a support group for them if you are in dire need of one. You just have to know some people.) Where were we... Oh! thats's right as many gameholics like to call it a N64. The thing is just like gambling once you start the rush gets to you and there is no way anyone can force you to place the controller down even if your parents threaten to hurt your favourite teddy bear, Mr. Fluffels. OHHH Mr. Fluffels !!!! What had he done to you??? WHAT I ASK YOU???

Enough of that, we are all grown men now and should easily be able to move away from our past.
Anyways, back to the N64, it was the world's biggest sensation when it first came out. The biggest I tell you, selling over 32.93 million pieces worldwide, probably even more. It was released on June 23, 1996 in, Japan September 29, 1996 in North America March 1, 1997 in Europe and Australia September 1, 1997 in France and December 10, 1997 in Brazil. It was the last Nintendo system to use cartridge based gaming storage. The Nintendo Game Cube used mini discs and Nintendo Wii uses regular sized discs. The N64 or Nintendo 64's starting price in North America was $199 and the slogan that went with it was "Get N, or get out!"

Because of Nintendo's efforts to improve their gaming system like the N64 and forcing other companies to take matters into their own hands and build their own game systems like Sony PlayStation and Microsoft's X BOX, we are where we are today with a three way battle in our hands against Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft X BOX 360 and our very own Nintendo Wii.

Here at Gaming Grounds we say Good Luck to Nintendo and thank them for providing us the most beautiful thing ever invented that led to where we our today- the Nintendo 64 or N64.

SPACE INVADERS

Space Invaders

Powered by: Onlyfungames.com
Space Invaders, a game which gets as original as it gets. This was a super duper big hit when it first came out in the arcades. Yes, that's right the game like many others awesome originals came out first in the arcade and later in flash and javascripts in order for us to play on a computer. When Space Invaders first came out it sold over 60.000 units in the first year alone. FIRST YEAR ALONE. That tells you the popularity of the game. In Japan the game was so popular that there was a shortage of 100 yen coins that was used to play the game.
The motive of the game is simple, all you have to do is move right or left shooting the invaders in the sky while dodging the bullets they shoot at you. You have three lives and walls, to protect you, that will sustain damage from your fire and the enemy's fire. After the gamer beats each level the speed of the game gets faster and the invaders get closer to you by moving down a notch faster placing more pressure on you to shoot them down.
The game was immortalized in the show Futurama where Fry had to save the world by shooting down the invaders just like in our game here the Space Invaders.

Play Games at AddictingGames

Click on the image above to play Pacman. Yes I said Pacman. I know many of you have grown tired of this game or many of you might not even have heard or ever played it.
I don't know. What I do know is that this is a classic and you guys absolutely have to play this. This game requires a lot of focus from you and like nicotine is very addicting. You have quickly rely on your judgment and makes moves accordingly to be able to eat all of the dots without being caught by the ghosts. I don't know if that's what they are called but that is what I will call them. Anyways you have to get away from them and eat all the dots. The game was able to immortalize itself because of its creativity. Many games that you play online now which require you to eat or destroy certain items before a certain someone catches you, have been based on Pacman. So why not play the original first and see how it is? (Rhetorical Question don't answer).

Click the image above to play Frogger.
That's right I said Frogger. I can bet more than half of you people reading this don't even know what Frogger is. Well, the game is about a frog trying to get to the other side but cannot do it without the help from you guys. It is your responsibility to make sure the frog get on the other side without bring run over by incoming vehicles.
If he dies well, you can play the game again.
The game however itself was immortalized in the famous Seinfeld episode where the pizza place where Jerry and George used to hang out is about to close and they pay the store a last visit. George realizes that the arcade game Frogger is still there and no one has been able to beat his high score so far. Worried that the score might be erased George buys the game and attempts to bring it back to his place the day later. However the guys that Kramer recommends to move the arcade end up playing the game and wasting the batteries for it.
Well, I ain't going to tell you how it ended, find out on your own. Watch the episode either online or on T.V.

THEY CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS.

How about them Celtics? (Don't answer that, just a rhetorical question). Winning the NBA Championship after making spectacular trades in the off season earlier by getting Kevin Garnet and Ray Allen to work with Paul Pierce. Also, kudos to Paul for winning the Finals MVP, he really did deserve it after that come back against the Lakers in Game 5 at Los Angeles. In the mist of all that I still don't know why EA Sports did not place Paul Pierce on the cover. Kevin Garnet already has 2K, so he can't be in on this one. Alright so, they chose Tony Parker, fine. I will make peace with that.
However I cannot make my peace with the game.

I honeslty do not feel like playing this game. It is very repetitive now with the controls and the game play. There is nothing new. Yeah! the graphics are good but they had to be because of the changing times and the latest technology. I love sports, and sports related video games, upto an extent, but this game does not even come close to the high standards that have been set by other games like Maddne 09, NBA Live 08, NBA 2K9 and many others. The players in the game have a mind of their own and just pull shots when you don't want them to. If they make it, awesome, if they don't then you are just pissed off and looking at your screen going "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT MAN?? I DIDN'T WANT YOU TO TAKE THAT F*$%^ING SHOT. WHAT THE HELL?" I say it like that because that is exactly what I said when it happened to me when I was playing online and this was supposed to be the game winning shot.

Another thing I disliked about the game is that in other sports games you can make you own superstar and you basically control them through out the game. I would honestly love to see that feature in this game, which should have been added a long time ago. Madden has this feature and it is absolutely fun. You have to think like the player on the field and react similarly.

In the end there was not any upgrade in the gameplay and controlling of the game to make NBA Live 09 any more enjoyable but rather they took away from it's reputation. EA has to do better jobs with the future NBA games. Here at GamingGrounds we give NBA Live 09, 2Gs out of 5.

ROAMING AROUND THE CITY LOOKIN FOR GIN AND JUICE

Amongst the hottest games this year like Gears Of War 2 or Halo 3 and various others Grand Theft Auto 4 was also eagerly awaited by everyone. GTA 4 follows after San Andreas, Vice City and plain GTA 3. In my opinion this was a great rebound after the spoof San Andreas. I personally hated San Andreas and wasted by week playing that game. I loved GTA 3 and Vice City with the Mob perspective and honestly they should have kept it that way. San Andreas really sucked with the gangbangers and petty criminals that in the end should just die or never have been included in the game.
Now I aint saying that the was nothing but crap... well, yes I am; but there was one thing I did very much like about it and unfortunatley it was only available with PS2. By now all the GTA followers know what I am talking about. That's right I am talking about "Hot Coffee" that was somehow programmed into GTA San Andreas and helped the gamaholics to visualize what sex is. I don't think they ever would have found out had it not been for "Hot Coffee" and the supposedly claimed hacker who programmed it into the game. Unfortunaltey for the Xbox fans they still have long ways to go.
Hold on, lets get back on the topic of GTA 4. Well, what I loved about this game was the story line about an immigrant from Eastern Europe named Niko Bellic who has arrived in Liberty City and stays with his cousin Roman. His goal is to acheive the American Dream, the short way. Obviously like other GTA, you have to kill and rob and pillage etc. etc. to meet your goal.
The game world in GTA 4 is more accessible now than ever before. You can, in addition to drive cars, motorcycle, bikes etc., fly helicopters, drive a boat or swim your way to the other side.
Now another feature that was added to the game which was not in previous GTAs is the ability to play online. That's right, you can now play online against other players around the world and join parties where you play Cops and Robbers or plain old every man for themselves.
Here at Gaming Grounds we give GTA 4 Liberty City 4Gs out of 5 and San Andreas 1G out of 5.
